cheap entertainment...that's a dead bug skeleton.
This is the cabin at Twin Springs. Will's grand dad built it a LONG time ago. It is completely log built with some rough siding as well as stripped tree trunks for columns and stone work is throughout the interior.
There are a couple of the sweetest swings hanging from the tree out front but the boys refuse to do anything on them but dive bomb eachother.
my (sweaty) brood...can you smell 'em?
MR in the cotton field
Daddy explaining cotton to LE
Even daddy got in on the haybale mountaineering...showing us how to mount a haybale the proper (but not graceful) way.
Ah...cicada football. You know those exoskeletons you find when cicadas molt? ewww...they had a little fun with the leftovers.
AC casting down at the pond, but alas...no fish to be caught.
4 star lodgings?,,,this ain't the White Swan, baby!
a little natural ability.
The ONLY fish caught this trip...(had to throw him back) wooohooo- that means I don't have to fry him up!
The young princess at the wheel.'Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. Ours was so relaxing and calm. Exactly what we needed after a crazy start to a new school year. We began by cleaning the house from top to bottom on Saturday morning but rewarded ourselves with a trip to the toystore and mall. We played a rousing game of High School Musical DVD and watched "Spiderwick Chronicles" on Saturday night. After church on Sunday (which I spent counting cars in the parking lot with LE because she refuses to stay in the nursery...by the way...there were 106 cars at church on Sunday) we packed up the car and headed for Twin Springs to spend the night at the cabin. The kids did some fishing while I smocked and chased LE away from the water's slimy edge. RC caught the only fish and the rest of us enjoyed torturing the turtles and stomping on mushrooms. ALL three kiddos had a chance to drive on the farm roads and we did a little hay bale mountaineering before heading back to the cabin for...you guessed it...cicada football!!! What, never heard of it? Well--you ain't missing much but the kids thought it was hilarious. (Check out the pictures for a clue.) This morning we jumped up and went to check on the cows and get a "hog report". Apparently our farm and the surrounding area is overrun with wild hogs and the overseers have been shooting 1 or 2 a day to keep them from eating up the peanuts and rooting in the cotton.
All in all...it was so nice to get away for a night and sleep out in the countryside away from all the noise...speaking of sleeping...check out where LE slept...
