Not 30 minutes after dropping RC off at a long awaited spend the night party (I dare not say slumber because no slumbering was involved...but more on that later) we got the call that he had split his knee open "pretty good" and might need a few stitches. (& the dad in charge is an emergency room physician so he oughta know). (My first question was why couldn't the dad just sew it up right there? Doc Whitaker never failed to fix Will right up every time he busted something...and he is an OBGYN. I love that my husband was sewn up multiple times by an OBGYN...but, again, I digress) I don't think they had MRSA back when we were kids ;0)
So, off we went to TMC (otherwise known as the Friday Night Kinfe & Gun show)where we were taken right on back thanks to a few phone calls on our way. It don't hurt to know people in high places (like an ER).
RC ran into a brick wall and gashed his leg back to the bone. The doctor was concerned that he had broken his tibia, but alas...no cast today. The bone was fine. He sewed him up with a few inside stiches and a few on the outside and he was ready to go...BACK TO THE PARTY! This kid shed not one tear about the wire brush they used to scrub out the wound, the betadyne swabs up under the skin, the multiple shots to deaden the area, or the 7 stitches it took to close it up...his only tears were because he was worried about missing the rest of the party! Upon his arrival back at the party with his HUGE bandage (Thanks, Nurse Mary!) he was greeted at the car like the wounded war hero he is and he ate pizza and stayed up all night with the rest of the crew.
Now RC has one more scar story to add to his repertoire. (I think he's up to 4 good ones) For this one, He says he'll tell girls he was bitten by shark...
scars...chicks dig it, ya know.
